On one of the hottest days in June, we opened our doors to our Small Acts of Kindness family, to celebrate 10 years of connecting communities and making a difference to older and vulnerable people.
We were delighted to be joined by our stakeholders, partners and funders as we officially began our celebrations in reaching this incredible milestone. Surrounded by those who have helped to get us to where we are today, we were overwhelmed by everyones kind words, heartfelt messages of congratulations and sincere thanks for all that we do in our community.
Lynne Misner, Small Acts of Kindness CEO and Founder commented, “It was such a wonderful evening and extremely moving for me, as I remember so clearly our launch event, talking about the incredibly successful first winter for Small Acts of Kindness when we sourced packed and distributed 50 Warm in Winter gift bags to vulnerable older people in Watford. I spoke about our plans to grow that to 200 gift bags the following winter.  Now, here we are, 10 years later, and we have reached over 105,000 people having packed 15,000 gift bags last year. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, sharing in our celebrations and making it so special.”
A special thanks to The Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, Robert Voss, Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor and Hertfordshire County Council Chairman, Councillor Laurence Brass who spoke so kindly, and for their continued help and support over the years.
The problem of cold and lonely older people is not going anywhere. With demand increasing and funding falling, we officially launched our campaign ‘Warm this Winter’, asking, how many vulnerable older people will you help to keep warm this winter?
From the outset, Lynne has been driven by one outcome – to always be able to supply a Warm in Winter gift bag to someone who needs one. With thanks to those who joined us, and so many others who couldn’t be there, we have been able to fulfil that commitment, one small act of kindness at a time.
