Kindness in the community Over the past year, we have been fortunate to have had 6 fantastic community fundraisers, who have tackled various challenges, raising much needed funds. With nearly £3,000 raised we are hugely grateful for their kindness and support, and have loved getting to know our community fundraisers, sharing their journey as they completed their challenges. The fundraising events ranged from large scale organised challenges, to an individual sponsored walk. We were really touched by their reasons for choosing Small Acts of Kindness to support and overwhelmed by the commitment, dedication and hard work they all displayed to achieve their goals. Taking part in The Big Half, running 13 miles around some of London’s most iconic sights, Amy told us: “I’m running for my dad, who is living with dementia and the isolation it often causes. Charities like Small Acts of Kindness provide hope, connection, and support when it’s most needed, and I’m proud to do my bit to help them continue their amazing work.” We were proud to have three swimmers take on the Swim Serpentine in Hyde Park this year. James swam 2 miles around the Serpentine. Having helped to distribute over 2,000 Warm in Winter gift bags across Hertsmere with his team, he has seen first hand the impact our work has. Darren took on a huge challenge, having given himself just 4 months to learn to swim properly! He told us: “I always set myself a challenge to push my comfort zone further and learn something new about myself every year, since a life changing event in 2016. It was a fantastic day. I’m so pleased to have raised some funds for Small Acts of Kindness” Alistair is passionate about kindness and the impact it can have. He swam 1 mile, without a wetsuit, as a reminder that it’s cool to be kind! Alongside these events, two of our volunteers took on their own challenges. Janice took part in the St Albans 10k run. She shared: "This is going to be a huge challenge having just completed a 5k. This is such a special charity which helps older people to keep warm in winter. The packs that we give out really make a difference and also make people feel less lonely.” Nemo arranged a sponsored 10 mile walk for herself, completing it in just one morning. She is a huge part of her local community, always giving and supporting others. We are incredibly fortunate to have them both as part of our team and so grateful that they wished to support our work by fund-raising in addition to the time they give throughout the year. Helping to fundraise for Small Acts of Kindness is a fantastic way to have fun, help make a difference to your local community and achieve something special. We are really thankful to everyone who chooses to support our work, helping thousands of older people to keep warm and feel cared for.
